Workout of the Day

I went down to London the last week and I happened to be in Covent Garden so I thought I would pay a visit to the Reebok store. Why is this relevant? Well Reebok are huge sponsors of the CrossFit phenomenon and this links back to the whole idea of a “workout of the day.” Let me explain what I am on about…

CrossFit is about high intensity exercise, complex movements, running, jumping, lifting, pulling and pushing – you name it, its what it is about. A lot of people are turning to this form of exercise as it is becoming (or rather has become) trendy for those who want to lose weight, get stronger and overall, just look so much better.

It’s become a sport in its own right, with Reebok holding an annual games – hosting some of the worlds fittest and stronger people. CrossFit is all about a challenge, it is about conquering a particular workout on any given day. Each day is different, and this is where the notion of a “Workout of the Day” comes from. Each gym has different workouts, different challenges for its members. There is even competition between different gyms to see who is the best.

So what actually makes up a workout of the day?

Honestly it can be anything.

When I went to the Reebok shop, they had a number of example workouts that its customers can just pick up and take with them to have a go with.

I personally thought this was a great idea – so much choice.

You can be as creative as you want to be with them. You have as many exercises in there as you want, you can do things for repetitions, you can do things for time. The world is your oyster in that respect.

My challenge to you would be to create your own. If you are new to exercising, start with basic exercises.

You could have something like a core challenge:

  • Crunch – 10 reps
  • Russian Twist – 10 reps each side
  • Toe Touches – 10 reps
  • Plank – 20 secs

How many circuits can you complete in 20 minutes?

One of the things to be aware of is when you start doing more complex exercises is to make sure that you maintain good form, and that you make sure you do them properly. When the element of competition comes into it, people get slack with technique and this can result in injuries so beware.

Let me know what some of the workouts are that you try.

Take care,

Josh
